Overview
Heptyl Alcohol also known as 1-Heptanol is an alcohol with a chain of seven carbon atoms.
It is a colourless liquid with a fragrant odour, which is why it is mainly used in the fragrances and flavours industry.
It is obtained by reduction of Heptaldehyde which is a product obtained by cracking of castor oil.
Uses of Heptyl Alcohol
- Heptyl Alcohol is used in synthesis of many flavours and fragrances such as apple, apricot, coconut, woody, citrus, nutty, fruity, strawberry, and vanilla.
- It is used in cosmetics for its fragrance, as an intermediate, and as a solvent in many cosmetics formulations.
- It used as a solvent in the paint and printing ink sector, as components in textile auxiliaries and pesticides, and in the surfactant field.
- It is used as an intermediate in making plasticisers for plastic industry.
