Overview

Polyricinoleic Acid (PRA) is a polymer of ricinoleic acid which occurs naturally in castor oil in the triglyceride form.

It is a viscous pale-yellow coloured liquid with a fatty odour.

Polyricinoleic Acid is proving to be an excellent alternative to other toxic chemicals used in many chemical formulations because of its good oxidative biodegradability, non-volatility, and stability.

We offer PRA at different acid value ranges namely, PRA 35: 30-40, PRA 50: 45-55, PRA 95: 90-100

Uses of Polyricinoleic Acid

  • Polyricinoleic Acid can be used in metal working as lubricants and a coolant.
  • The esterification of PRA with polyglycerol gives a powerful water-in-oil emulsifier called polyglycerol polyricinoleate which is used by the food industry.
  • Polyglycerol polyricinoleate is also used as a viscosity modifier to reduce the viscosity of food products like chocolate.
  • It can be formulated with a wide range of oils, surfactants and oil soluble materials.
  • PRA is also used to manufacture thermosetting elastomers.
